During the intense coverage of the US election, newsreader Emily Maitlis found herself in hot water after her co-anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy reprimanded her for swearing live on air.

With the world eagerly anticipating whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump would clinch the presidency, news outlets globally have been fervently discussing the potential outcomes and implications. Channel 4's own Emily and Krishnan were hosting a discussion with several guests on the unfolding events.

The broadcast took an unexpected turn when Emily inadvertently uttered a swear word. Recounting a controversial statement by Donald Trump, she remarked: "It's not that they disagree about one thing. The whole thing is asymmetric. When Donald Trump talked about eating cats and dogs. Half of America was thinking, 'This is bats**t. I can't believe what he's saying. This is going to be the end of him'."

A guest appeared taken aback as Krishnan interjected with a stern: "Stop swearing. I have to tell [the guests] off for swearing and then you do it," prompting Emily to swiftly issue an apology for her slip-up.

But just moments later, viewers noted Emily had disappeared from the screen with Krishnan sharing an update.

He commented: "I will tell off Emily later because I know she started swearing. It may be the middle of the night in Britain but we're still a little bit sensitive about that stuff."

Eagle-eyed viewers who had tuned into Channel 4's US election coverage noticed Emily was missing from the panel when they returned.

One viewer commented: "I just switched back over to channel 4. I kid you not. Emily Maitlis is no longer in the studio and Krishnan Guru-Murthy apologised and said she started to swear. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! THIS IS WONDERFUL!."

Another remarked: "I thought I was imagining things when I heard him say this."

A third wrote: "Oh it was Maitliss swearing. I switched over & thought he was talking about a guest Channel 4 had to cut off."

"Emily Maitlis just swore again and said ‘this is bats**t’ and Guru just told her off," a fourth commented.
