BBC Breakfast fans fume over 'painful' coverage as favourite presenter 'missing'

BBC Breakfast viewers were left fuming today as two favourites appeared to be missing from the show. Jon Kay led the coverage of the US election on the BBC this morning alongside Sumi Somaskanda, but fan favourites Sally Nugent and Carol Kirkwood have yet to be seen.

One fan noted, "Where's Sally #bbcbreakfast? " A second added, " #bbcbreakfast. Where's Carol with the weather?" Another wrote, "Where are all the BBC reporters? How come Jon is with Americans #bbcbreakfast?"

Fans were left puzzled by a change in the show, pointing out the times switching between EST and GMT time. One fan of the show wrote: "Problems for people getting ready to go to work...... The time at the bottom of the screen changes every couple of minutes !!?? [02.09 ...07.09 ...etc.] #BBCBreakfast." (sic)

Another noted that there was no UK news, writing: "#bbcbreakfast One hour of BBC Breakfast and so far no local news or weather.. What am I paying my licence fee for?"

A viewer shared: "#bbcbreakfast only good for time today brings back the speaking clock," with another adding: " I understand the importance of the US election, but endless coverage of a split screen image of crowd/building/flags isn't, perhaps, what many of us appreciate right now! Some UK news included in this would be easy enough to do and better as a public service! #BBCBreakfast."

One wondered what happened, writing: "#bbcbreakfast What's happened to BBC Breakfast?" Another described it as "painful." They said: "Painful TV #BBCBreakfast."

const loadOvpScript=()=>{let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=118222&playerApiId=v118222');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)};window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v118222"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Whilst Carol seemingly hasn't appeared on screen yet, she did give people updates about the weather via her social media. She wrote: "The weather really is stuck in a rut atm. High pressure is dominating - bringing us the same type of weather for the rest of this week and into the middle of next week. There's some rain today in the W Isles, and on Sunday Scot and N Ire could see some rain... It's a cold start in NE Scotland, but mild (for the time of year!) for the rest of the UK."

Earlier in the week, Sally expressed concern for Jon, who had already made it out to the US.

She said: "Jon, you still haven't said when you're going to sleep. I am going to worry about you all day now," as Jon replied: "I have no idea."

Fellow presenter Ben Thompson then jumped in to add: "Pace yourself, it is going to be a long week, we might not see you for a few weeks if it keeps going on and on. Take it easy, Jon, we will see soon."

Nigel Farage was pointed out in the coverage, as he was there at Trump HQ, whilst they also covered the HQ of Kamala Harris in Washington DC but she is not expected to speak.

*BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
