Alan Titchmarsh star left 'broken hollow shell' after harrowing one-year ordeal

This Morning: Alan Titchmarsh on 'strains' of social media

Alan Titchmarshs Love Your Weekend took a tearful turn as Pixie Lott opened up about her "emotionally draining" stint on the stage.

The singer, visiting the show to discuss her latest album – 10 years since the last – was also praised by Alan for her recent acting ventures. Although she shines in McDonald and Dodds, it was her heartfelt portrayal in the West End production of Breakfast at Tiffany's that had her "crying on the stage every night" for an entire year.

Inquiring further, Alan prodded Pixie on her exhausting experience: "You said you were emotionally drained, lying on the stage in tears?" Pixie confessed: "I didn't know what I was letting myself in for. I loved it so much, the director and the cast were amazing, but for almost a year I was crying on the stage every night.

"By the end I was just a broken shell of myself and not myself, it crept up on me. It was a really tricky patch. I definitely write about that on the new album, I didn't want to hide anything."

Speaking to The Sun, Pixie conveyed the toll the role took on her well-being: "By the end, I was a completely broken version of myself. I couldn't function properly at all. It really affected me mentally.

And I'd never had anything like that before. I was living with it for a couple of years. It took me a while to get out of that frame of mind," reports the Mirror.

However, the underlying issue stemmed from the play's adherence to the book instead of the filmthe former presents a decidedly darker narrative leading Pixies character through a gamut of loss, from husband to baby to cat.

Pixie Lott graced the set of Love Your Weekend, where she excitedly announced that her new album 'Encino' is now available, drawing its name from the Los Angeles district where she crafted her latest songs. It marks a significant moment as it's been ten years since fans have heard a new collection from Pixie, and even longer since she topped the charts with earworms like Mama Do and Boys and Girls.

Meanwhile, Alan Titchmarsh made a heartfelt revelation about his enduring romance with his wife Alison, to whom he has been wed since 1975.

He shared: "Would you believe it's 48 years! I'm always asked the secret to a long marriage, but there's no easy answer. Shared values, a sense of humour. Yes, you fall in love, but love can be transitory. What really keeps you together is liking each other... being great friends and companions."

Reflecting on their early days, Alan reminisced how they "couldn't afford" lavish dinners out and had to diligently save 25p a week for their butcher as a down payment on a Christmas roast.
