BBC Breakfast viewers issue complaint over 'awkward' Bill Bailey interview

Naga Munchetty asks Bill Bailey about his tongue

BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to complain over an 'awkward' Bill Bailey chat on Friday's show.

During the latest instalment, the comedian and former Strictly Come Dancing winner, 59, was on the programme to talk about his new book My Animals, and Other Animals: A memoir of sorts.

As such, BBC Breakfast showed various pictures of Bill with animals and one picture in particular left host Naga Munchetty baffled. Showing a selfie snap of Bill with a husky in Iceland, a confused Naga, 49, asked: "Is that your tongue or the dog’s tongue?"

To which an equally baffled Bill replied: "That's the dog's tongue, what do you mean is that my tongue? It's coming out sideways! That's not the sort of thing I'd do! That's the dog's tongue!"

However, Naga was quick to defend her question as she explained: "Look you can see if someone said that's your tongue, it would be believable!" with Bill joking: "That's not the question I thought I was going to get today: 'Is that your tongue or the dog's?'"

At the end of the interview, Bill was asked about the use of AI and whether it could one day replace comedians to which he said: "Do you think? No way, AI could never replace me! Look, AI, the tongue would come straight out you'd know whose tongue it was!"

To which Naga replied: "You're saying it as a compliment, the husky had a nice tongue!" with Bill responding with: "Alright..." as he chuckled in disbelief.

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to complain about the 'awkward' interview, especially with the interview going onto the topic of tongues.

Dreadful stuff. #BBCBreakfast", another wrote: "#bbcbreakfast Another awkward interview with a celeb promoting their book.. Why bother?" while a different account added: "#BBCBreakfast Charlie and Naga, never failure to take the opportunity to make an interview unnecessary awkward."
