Lorraine discusses Jamie Theakson's cancer diagnosis

Lorraine Kelly has extended her heartfelt wishes to Jamie Theakston during her ITV morning programme as he faces his battle with cancer.

The 53-year-old radio personality shared a poignant update with his online followers on Tuesday (September 17), revealing that he had undergone surgery to remove a lesion from his vocal cords, which was later diagnosed as Stage 1 laryngeal cancer.

"So...I have cancer... but cancer doesn't have me! " Jamie bravely announced to his supporters. "The prognosis is very positive and I'm hoping to be back with you in October."

Jamie, who co-hosts the popular breakfast show alongside Amanda Holden, has been advised to rest his voice until he makes a full recovery.

"Until then, I leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK [Jason King] and Amanda [Holden]. Huge thanks to them and all the Global Family who have been unbelievably supportive.", reports the Daily Record.

He added: "Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I'll have a great story to tell."

It was after his listeners pointed out a change in his voice on air that Jamie sought medical advice.

On September 1, he provided an update on his health, expressing gratitude towards his audience for their concern and prompting him to seek medical attention. "Got it checked Doctors found a lesion on my vocal cords which I've had removed this weekend thanks for all the kind messages should be back on my feet soon," he shared previously.

Jamie has been inundated with messages of support from stars and fans alike, with Lorraine saying on her programme, "Of course, we send him all our love and good wishes."

Carol Vorderman took to X to share her thoughts, expressing, "Sending best Jamie. thank goodness your listeners spotted the change in your voice, all found early and you'll be back keeping everyone happy very soon."

Lisa Snowdon, who worked alongside Theakston, sent her regards with a heartfelt, "Sending lots of love Jamie," while Emma Bunton, who shared the screen with him from 2013 to 2018, posted a caring "Love you to bits."

Amanda, Jamie's current on-air partner, chimed in with an affectionate, "Love you darling" Meanwhile, famed chef Jamie Oliver sent his support with a strong-hearted message, "big love brother you got this sending love xxx".

The NHS lists symptoms of laryngeal cancer including a hoarse voice, pain during swallowing, neck swellings, long-term coughs or breathlessness, ongoing throat soreness or ear pain, and in critical conditions, breathing difficulties.
