Netflix commits huge blunder by 'insulting' pretty English seaside town in new series

TM: Michael Whitehall 'worried' about Jack becoming a Dad

Jack Whitehall and his father Michael's new Netflix series, Fatherhood With My Father, has sparked outrage among Falmouth locals, with complaints that the show fails to accurately represent their picturesque Cornish town.

In the second episode of the travelogue, which features a visit to the state-of-the-art robotics studio Engineered Arts in Falmouth, they meet Ameca, the world's most advanced humanoid robot.

However, as the Whitehalls explore Falmouth, a certain image used to depict the town has raised eyebrows among discerning Cornish viewers.

A particular aerial shot, intended to display Falmouth, has drawn criticism from a local who noticed a significant mistake, suggesting the production team failed to conduct proper research.

Cornwall Live reported suspicions that the footage might not even be from Cornwall or anywhere in Britain, but could instead be a 'stock photo' of a harbour resembling a location in America or possibly the Bahamas, reports Wales Online.

"There is a cut scene showing an aerial view of what appears to be some random port town either in America, or possibly the Bahamas," a baffled viewer told Cornwall Live.

The feedback was harsh: "Someone from the production team has obviously not done their due diligence and submitted a stock photo of some random port town!"

To add insult to injury, they claimed: "Which is not Falmouth. And not even anywhere in Cornwall or the UK for that matter!"

The Falmouth local expressed their frustration, feeling "misrepresented" by a Netflix series that mistakenly used B-roll footage from a location other than their cherished Cornish town.

"As a resident of Falmouth I feel slightly misrepresented by Mr Whitehall and his team," they stated.

They further commented, "For a large budget production on Netflix, I would expect them to do better than this!"

The contentious footage bears a resemblance to a location called Falmouth Harbour in Antigua and Barbados.

Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Meanwhile, Falmouth has been lauded by TimeOut as one of the UK's top destinations to visit, securing the ninth spot in December's list of the top 15 places to see.

TimeOut extolled the virtues of the town, branding it "Cornwall's cooler town" and noting its popularity among the younger crowd, particularly due to its lively student population.

TimeOut also celebrated Falmouth's cultural offerings, stating: "This spot is the ideal place to absorb some of the county's best culture," while also mentioning the booming music scene, unique shops and galleries, and welcoming pubs situated near the harbour.
