Corrie favourite confirms return 10 years after debut - but Adam Barlow needs to watch out

A Coronation Street star has confirmed their return to filming months after her character's departure.

Actress Sair Khan rose to fame portraying Alya Nazir on the ITV soap since 2014. Earlier this year, it was announced that Alya would be leaving the show as Sair took maternity leave in real life, welcoming her baby boy in April.

During her time on the show, viewers saw Alya nearly start a romantic relationship with her boss Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), but she chose a work opportunity in Dublin instead.

However, on Wednesday (September 11), Sair excitedly revealed to her fans that she was back on set. She shared a picture of her script on Instagram with the caption, "I'm Backstreet."

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=118222&playerApiId=v118222');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v118222"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

The announcement of Sair's return sparked joy among many fans, though some were quick to speculate about what Alya might be up to when her return airs.

Fans shared their theories online, suggesting that Alya and Adam could finally become a couple.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person responded to Alya's comeback by saying: "Wonder if Alya and Adam will get back together.", reports the Liverpool Echo. Another fan wrote: "Brilliant his girlfriend is back." A third added: "Adam and Alya are sooo getting together then."

In April, Sair Khan became a mum after enduring a 22-hour labour with her partner Nathan Chilton, an experience she described as an "absolute rollercoaster".

Sharing the news on Instagram, Sair announced: "He's here! Okay, when I said 'Spring awakening' in my last post I didn't mean 'keep' me awake. The new parent zombie look is definitely a thing isn't it."

She added: "More importantly our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He's super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour.

"We didn't quite get the birth i'd hoped for but that's okay (two birth pools, no water birth)."

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
