Timothy Spall shows off incredible weight loss on red carpet

The  BBC has just dropped some exciting news for comedy fans as Steffan Rhodri, Alexandria Riley and Melanie Walters are set to join the cast of the new comedy series, Death Valley.

This six-part murder mystery comedy, rooted in the heart of Wales, will see an unlikely duo come together to crack crime in a most unconventional partnership.

Starring as the lead characters in this rib-tickling show are none other than Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth, who will bring to life John Chapel, a quirky retired actor and national icon from the fictional detective series Caesar, and Detective Sergeant Janie Mallowan, respectively.

The show promises to be a riot with its official synopsis teasing: "Thrown together by the murder of John's neighbour, John and Janie are an odd, yet hilarious duo with opposing instincts.

"Every week, they get to the bottom of gripping murders, with various stunning Welsh locations providing a backdrop to their investigations."

The pair will delve into intriguing murders each week against the stunning Welsh countryside.

Joining the stellar lineup is House of the Dragon's Steffan Rhodri, who will portray DCI Clarke, Janie's superior and mentor figure, while Alexandria Riley of Baby Reindeer fame steps into the shoes of Baxter, a no-nonsense pathologist and Janie's confidante.

Gavin and Stacey alum Melanie Walters will appear as Yvonne, Janie's overbearing mother, with Remy Beasley shining as Rhiannon, a blast from Janie's past who epitomises perfection, reports the Mirror.

Gwyneth Keyworth couldn't contain her excitement about the project, exclaiming: "Murder. Mystery. Comedy. AND TIMOTHY SPALL! I'm absolutely buzzing.

"I'm grateful to be working on a show that truly celebrates Wales - not just its landscapes and culture, but also its unique quirks and the humour that defines its people."

Also joining the star-studded cast is Mike Bubbins, who steps into the shoes of the un-self-aware and overly friendly Desk Sergeant Tony, while up-and-comer Rithvik Andugula is set to charm as DC Evan Chaudhry, the eager-to-please and somewhat naive junior police officer.

Show creator and writer Paul Doolan shares the enthusiasm, as he remarked: "'I'm such a huge fan of the crime genre and I love writing comedy.

"So, it's been a delight to see the show come to life with such a brilliant array of actors and guest stars for our murder suspects."

Audiences can look forward to the much-anticipated series Death Valley, which is slated to hit screens via BBC Two, BBC One Wales and BBC iPlayer come 2025.
