Death in Paradise star admits they struggled to finish filming scene with Ralf Little

Don Warrington doesn't know why Death in Paradise is a success

A star from the beloved BBC drama Death in Paradise has revealed the challenging conditions they faced while filming on set.

Fans of the hit BBC detective series can look forward to a fresh season, with actor Don Gilet stepping into the lead detective's shoes. The storyline saw Neville Parker, played by Ralf Little, choose to pursue love and adventure with Florence Cassell, leading to his departure from the show, much to the dismay of his loyal following.

Taj Atwal made a special appearance in the series as Neville's former flame Zoe, who rekindled their connection via an online alias 'Sunset Chaser' and travelled to Saint Marie.

Reflecting on her role, Taj shared: "It was a very quick turnaround, less than a week! I hadn't watched the show before and did not know what a huge fan base it has! It was so lovely."

She also recounted the intense heat during filming: "I burned my feet on the sand on the beach in a scene, it was that hot! I'm trying to do this particular scene with Ralf and all I kept thinking was 'I'm not going to be able to finish this scene, I need to run off the beach and jump into the sea to cool down.'"

Taj admitted she was unaware that her character would play a pivotal role in Ralf Little's exit from the series when she accepted the part, reports the Mirror.

"I mean she was pretty confident to go out there after him and he took it pretty well, considering. I think he let her down as gently as he could. She got a nice few days with him trying to work it out but, alas, it was not to be," she revealed to Radio Times.

Don Gilet is set to become the new face of crime-solving on the beloved BBC series when it makes its comeback next year. Elated about his new role, he expressed: "Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.

"This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer whichever happens to be closer at the time!"
