Lost veteran signs on to Yellowstone follow-up The Madison opposite Michelle Pfeiffer

Kevin Costner discusses his Yellowstone departure

Yellowstone spin-off The Madison has found another series lead - and he’s a familiar face for fans of hit TV dramas.

Deadline reported today (August 26) that Lost veteran Matthew Fox has signed on to head the series opposite Hollywood star Michelle Pfeiffer.

The upcoming drama is set in the world of Taylor Sheridan’s modern Western starring Kevin Costner, replacing the flagship when it comes to an end with the second half of season five.

Matthew joins previously confirmed cast members Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller and Suits star Patrick J Adams.

He’ll be portraying Paul, described as “a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors”.

The drama kicks off when a New York family heads to the Madison River valley in central Montana for a break after suffering a devastating loss.

Movie star Michelle portrays bereaved mother Stacy Clyburn while Elle and Beau portray her two daughters Paige and Abigail.

Suits favourite Patrick is playing Paige’s husband Russell, while Amiah is playing Abigail’s daughter Bridgette.

An official synopsis reads: “A New York family's life unravels after a tragedy, as they process grief while vacationing in rural Montana, exploring human connection amidst profound sorrow.”

Matthew is best known for portraying Dr Jack Shephard in all six seasons of Lost on ABC.

Following a break in his career, he has most recently starred in the Australian comedy series Caught, which featured cameo appearances from Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon and Travis Fimmel.

Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting new episodes of the mainline Yellowstone series following a wait of two years.

Filming was stalled for several factors, primarily the loss of leading man Kevin due to his divorce proceedings last year and production on his blockbuster film Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter One.

He confirmed his departure via Instagram back in June following months of speculation on whether or not his character John Dutton would be back to finish the series.

“I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon, and doing all the things that that's required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love and I know you love…” he told his fans in a video.

“I just realized that I'm not going to be able to continue season five, or into the future.”

The Yellowstone saga is also expected to continue with another season of 1923 and yet another spin-off, 1944.

Yellowstone season 5, part 2 premieres Sunday, November 10 on Paramount.
