The BBC has unveiled plans for a brand new two-part documentary series titled, Signs for Living with Rose Ayling-Ellis.

The series will see Strictly Come Dancing champion and ex-EastEnders actress, Rose, leading a group of elderly individuals on an emotional journey as they master British Sign Language (BSL). The programme is set to shine a light on the issue of hearing loss in older people and its effect on their health and well-being.

With expert advice and professional guidance at her disposal, Rose is embarking on a groundbreaking journey that could potentially alter views about the role of BSL in the lives of those suffering from hearing loss in their twilight years. But above all, Rose's experiment will underscore the delight of communication and the power of community.

Opening up about the upcoming series, Rose admitted she was aware there would be some hurdles. She confessed: "I knew filming this show would be a challenge, but what I have experienced teaching the residents sign language has gone beyond my expectations."

"It is an experience I will cherish for a lifetime, and I just can't wait for viewers to see the series," reports the Liverpool Echo.

With around 75 percent of older individuals suffering from hearing loss - a figure predicted to increase to 80 percent by 2032 - the series will centre on the inhabitants of a retirement village.

Hearing loss, often neglected and undiagnosed, is seen as a significant public health concern that can lead to further complications in later life.

In this touching project, Rose will investigate whether British Sign Language (BSL) could improve the quality of life in old age and be beneficial for everyone as we grow older.

She will also highlight the lack of support for individuals like her in their later years. Throughout the series, viewers will experience the joy and challenge of learning BSL through the ups and downs of a group of lively characters at Hughenden Gardens Retirement Village.

These individuals are challenging old-age stereotypes and showing what's achievable. The series will showcase heartwarming moments such as 95-year-old students, some with arthritis in their hands, signing to each other with the help of Deaf tutors working alongside Rose. As well as deaf children as young as five sharing their fears, hopes, and dreams with the older residents.
