Channel 5 The Cruise star apologises after major blunder 'Didn't intend to do it'

The Cruise: Tourist forgets how to spell his mother's name

A star of Channel 5’s The Cruise: Fun-Loving Brits at Sea made a grievous error whilst creating a heartfelt gift for his mother. The holidaymaker remarked how “bad” the moment was after forcing his girlfriend to find out how to spell her name.

The Cruise: Fun-Loving Brits at Sea follows various veterans and newbie cruisers aboard luxury ships. On a recent episode of the TV show, Rosie and James were on a five-day tour of the Mediterranean.

On their fourth day, the couple docked in the beautiful city of Marseille. Fresh off the boat, the pair headed to the Savon de Marseille museum, where tourists can take part in a unique soap manufacturing workshop.

Traditional Marseille soap is created using a concoction of soda and olive oil, due to animal fats once being banned by King Louis XIV of France. After witnessing how the soap was made, the duo were allowed to stamp a personalised message into their bars.

James, who had plans to propose to Rosie on the trip, toyed with the idea of writing his declaration in the soap. Eventually, he decided against it—claiming it had been a “terrible idea”.

Instead, he tried to dedicate the soap to his mother, Annette, but it all went embarrassingly wrong. “So just doing one for my mum but spelt the name wrong so I’m just doing another one,” he explained. “Sorry mum.”

The tourist then enlisted Rosie to search for his mother on social media to see how to correctly spell her name. “That’s bad that,” said his girlfriend with a grimace.

“It is bad,” he replied. In a piece to camera recorded at a later date, James explained: “I can’t believe I did that but I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to my mum.

“Obviously didn’t intend to do it. Won’t happen again.”

After failing to spell Annette’s name correctly on the first bar, he was given a second, where he simply stamped the word ‘Mum’.

He later remarked that his bar wasn’t as “pretty” as his fiancé-to-be’s but claimed he “did his best” during the workshop.

James then revealed he’d stamped another bar, this time with his own name spelt correctly.

The cruiser proceeded to hold up the mistake soap and said that anyone called Anne could come forward and claim the second bar if they desired.

Later, Rosie claimed she enjoyed the soap-making activity more than her boyfriend as she had more of a “creative side”.

After exiting the museum, the pair met up with a local guide who showed them around a local fruit and vegetable market.

After coming away with a handful of grapes, Rosie and James boarded the cruise ship again.

There, they cracked open a bottle of bubbly and began reflecting on their four-day cruise onboard the cruise ship's spa.

“Gutted to be going home,” claimed James, while Rosie said the pair had done “so much” and it felt as if they’d been away for a full month.
