Jermaine Jenas' final appearance on BBC's The One Show before sacking

Jermaine Jenas hosts The One Show with Alex Jones in July

Jermaine Jenas made his final appearance on The One Show exactly one month before the BBC announced he’d been dropped from their roster. It’s understood the former Newcastle United midfielder has been axed due to “inappropriate behaviour”.

On July 22, fans of The One Show unknowingly tuned in to see 41-year-old Jermaine present the magazine programme for the final time. The mid-week show saw the father-of-four helming the show with 47-year-old Alex Jones.

During the show, the pair spoke to The Crown actress Imelda Staunton, 68, former Pop Idol star Will Young, 45, and Watchdog’s Nikki Fox, 44. A month on from the appearance, BBC confirmed his departure.

“We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line-up,” a statement from the broadcaster read. The ex-England footballer will also no longer appear on Match of the Day alongside Gary Lineker as his tenure was cut short on Thursday (August 22).

He made his last appearance on MOTD on May 4. Jermaine has been part of The One Show’s rotating cast of presenters since making his debut in 2020.

According to The Sun, his dismissal is linked to “allegations of inappropriate behaviour”.

The star has since broken his silence on the sacking, appearing on Drive Live with talkSPORT to say he felt he was in “the hot seat”.

Covering the radio show for usual host Andy Goldstein, the broadcaster remarked: “We’re here, aren’t we? They have chucked me right into the hot seat.”

During the show, ex-striker Darren Bent also featured and claimed presenting duties would be tricky for Jermaine.

“I've known you since I was seven years old and you have never made my life easy,” he replied.

Jermaine Pennant also joined the radio show host in the studio and the trio discussed on-pitch matters regarding Chelsea, rather than the recent BBC situation.

Prior to his sacking, the Spurs playmaker claimed he would be “up” for hosting MOTD if Gary was to stand down from his hosting duties.

He confessed to the Daily Mail: “I would obviously be up for it… it's Match of the Day and it would be a great opportunity.

"I haven't thought that far ahead but I hosted Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night, which was the first one I've ever done. I loved it, it felt comfortable to me, it felt normal, and I love doing The One Show as well.

He added that he was “blessed” that he was being considered for the role by fans but claimed he didn’t see the former Barcelona star going “anywhere soon”.

“But when that day comes which it will do, I would like to think that I am at least thought about to fill the position. If that is the case then I would obviously jump at it.”
