Sinitta fights back tears as she tells Loose Women panel she was homeless after chart hit

Loose Women: 80's popstar Sinitta opens up on being homeless

Pop star Sinitta has revealed that she was once homeless, a fact unknown to many of her devoted fans.During an appearance on Loose Women, the '80s star confessed that she was "living in her car" during the '90s and was too "embarrassed" to tell anyone after falling on hard times.

In conversation with the panel, which included Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, Dame Kelly Holmes and Kelle Bryan, Simon Cowell's closest friend admitted she had struggled with a "huge tax bill" and "hadn't managed her finances well", leading to her having to sell off her assets.

After selling her house to pay the tax bill and being too proud to ask friends for help, she ended up living in her car until she could get back on her feet.

It was Kèllè, a member of the band Eternal, who brought up the situation after reading about Sinitta getting herself "into bother".

The So Macho singer expressed relief that Kèllè hadn't mentioned anything else from her past, saying: "I wondered where this was going. Phew, my mother is watching," before discussing the unfortunate circumstances, reports the Mirror.

She clarified: "It's true, I think this was back in the early '90s, I did live in my car because I hadn't managed money well, I also panicked because I had a tax bill and I knee-jerked sold the house to pay my tax bill and gave up the house to a friend."

Sinitta reflected candidly on her past struggles and confided, "I probably should have taken advice and had a mortgage or something but you know when you're young and you're just trying to manage it."

The pop icon confessed that the most challenging part of her ordeal was not the physical discomfort of "not living in her car" but battling "the shame" and "the embarrassment" of having no home, despite her celebrity status.

Desperate to keep her situation secret, Sinitta said she made every effort to maintain appearances as 'happy Sinitta' for whom 'everything's great,' especially given the time frame of late '80s and early '90s. The Toy Boy singer admitted going to great lengths to ensure no one discovered her predicament.

Revealing how she managed to keep her predicament hidden, Sinitta spoke about utilising public amenities for basic necessities such as showering, relied on self-storage for her clothes, while surviving on a tight budget for food.

As she recounted her experience, the chart-topping star couldn't hold back her emotions, her voice breaking as she unveiled, "On the outside everything looked great and fine but I was actually sleeping in my car."

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV1, from 12:30pm
