BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood issues urgent weather warning as co-star 'unsettled'

BBC Breakfast: Carol reports on an 'autumnal' turn in weather

BBC Breakfast’s resident weather expert Carol Kirkwood had an urgent warning for viewers who tuned into her segment this week.

On Monday (August 19), Carol was armed and ready with a meteorological update.

Chatting to presenters Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent, things were off to a shaky start as Ben said: “Let’s talk to Carol, because she’s been telling us that it’s been feeling a little autumnal outside. It’s too soon, it can’t be!”

Sally chimed in: “It is! If you haven’t been out yet – it is.” And Carol had an urgent warning for viewers of the programme as she explained: “It is going to continue to be so this week. Good morning everyone. The weather really is looking like it’s taken an autumnal turn.

“As we go through the week there’s going to be heavy rain at times, we’ll see some of that today. It’s going to be unseasonably windy – even with gales, but there still will be some warm sunshine around.”

Carol admitted the weather will be “unsettled” – and that’s not the only thing, as Ben admitted he too is feeling “unsettled” about the sudden switch from summer to autumn.

Delving deeper into the weather, Carol warned the “clouds are going to continue to build” as the rain “sweeps in from the west”. She said: “It’s going to be accompanied by strong winds.”

At home, fans on social media had plenty to say about the forecast.

“Feels like autumn Carol, not good. Happy week!” one viewer chimed in, as another disagreed: “Perfect temperature in Nottingham, a week later, still recovering from a week away in the Cairngorms.”

Someone else said: “Feeling autumnal. Oh no!” and another fan begged: “Carol, tell the clouds to go away!”

Elsewhere on the programme, things turned tense as Strictly Come Dancing pro Vito Coppola, who appeared on the sofa as a guest, said he "doesn't want to talk" to presenter Ben after a row about Italian food.

Vito admitted the worst "crime" Brits do to Italian food is putting pineapple on pizza when Ben chimed in: "I love pineapple on pizza!"

This led Vito to jest: "No! You eat the pineapple on the pizza? I don't know if I want to talk to you again." He later begged Ben: "Why? Why?" with his hands clasped desperately together, adding: "I'm almost crying because of this.

"You know why? Because pizza is pizza. You know what I mean? I don't put chocolate cream on fish and chips, I don't do that! So why do we have to put pineapple on the pizza? It's so beautiful with the sauce, the tomato and the mozzarella."
