Death in Paradise star Tahj Miles looks almost unrecognisable in his new role after quitting the BBC series earlier this year. Tahj, who played police officer Marlon Pryce, in the cop drama is set to star as Daniel in a new BBC series called Mr Loverman.

It comes as the BBC has released brand new pictures from Mr Loverman, the forthcoming eight-part drama series based on Booker prize-winning author Bernardine Evaristo’s best-selling 2013 novel of the same name. The series will air this autumn on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Joining Tahj in the star-studded cast are Line of Duty's Lennie James as the exuberant protagonist Barrington Jedidiah Walker and three-time Olivier Award winner Sharon D Clarke, who stars as Carmel Walker, Barrington’s wife of five decades.

Ariyon Bakare (Life, His Dark Materials) plays Barrington’s best friend and soulmate, Morris De La Roux, while Tamara Lawrance (Get Millie Black, Time series two) and Sharlene Whyte (Small Axe, Stephen) star as Barrington and Carmel’s daughters, Maxine and Donna. Tahj will play Daniel, Donna’s son, and Carmel and Barrington’s grandson.

The synopsis for the new series reads: "Barrington Jedidiah Walker, Barry to his mates, is a seventy-four-year-old, Antiguan-born, exuberant Hackney personality, renowned for his dapper taste and fondness for retro suits.

"Carmel, his wife of 50 years, senses that Barry has been cheating on her with other women. Little does she know what’s really going on: a secret, passionate affair with his best friend and soulmate, Morris.

"Now facing the final chapter of his life, Barry has big choices to make that will force his whole family to question their futures.

"Bringing to life Bernardine Evaristo’s ground-breaking exploration of Britain’s older Caribbean community, 'Mr Loverman’ is a life-affirming story about family, love, and being true to yourself."

The series will also feature Suzette Llewellyn (EastEnders, Vera), Lochlann Ó Mearáin (Joyride, Holding), Hopi Grace (Boiling Point, The Book of Clarence), Llewella Gideon (Top Boy, Small Axe), Doreene Blackstock (Sex Education, The Colour Room), Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (The Split, His Dark Materials), Juliet Garricks (Murder They Hope, The Doctor) and Clint Dyer (Mine, Black Mirror) across the series.

Tahj joined Death in Paradise in season 10 as young troublemaker Marlon after Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) thought it would be good for the teenager to join the Youth Offenders Police team. Just three seasons later, he became a real police officer.

After his final episode of Death in Paradise played out, Tahj didn't have much to say about the reason for his exit, but he did share a sweet snap of him holding a clapperboard on set.

"It's been real people, Marlon out," he simply wrote with a heart on X. He also shared the same post to Instagram with the caption: "Senior Year. 4 years, 28 Eps & 3 specials. It’s been real."

Mr Loverman is coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One this Autumn.
