The Yorkshire Vet's Peter Wright performs emergency surgery in desperate bid to save lamb

The Yorkshire Vet: David marries Megan in France

In an intense new episode of The Yorkshire Vet, Peter Wright is seen grappling with a challenging caesarian section on a sheep in severe distress. The farm is a hive of activity as Wright administers sedation to the labouring sheep, while a significant delivery arrives, adding to the tension of the moment as he strives to rescue both the mother and her offspring.

The show has previously featured similarly gripping and courageous veterinary procedures. Last year, viewers were captivated as vet Matt Smith undertook a pioneering operation to equip a lamb with a prosthetic leg, a first for the series.

Smith employed an innovative technique to attach the prosthetic to Star, marking one of the first such procedures in the UK.

The heartwarming episode detailed how Matt Smith from Donaldson's Vets was summoned to assist Star, who suffered from a congenital leg deformity.

Determined to improve the quality of life for the sheep, owned by Jake Ratcliffe of a Huddersfield animal sanctuary, Smith was committed to the procedure despite uncertainties about the animal's survival without it, reports the Mirror.

Discussing the groundbreaking surgery, sanctuary owner Jake said: "It's very unusual to fit a prosthetic limb on a sheep in the UK but in America, it's more common and we are speaking to people in America where the limb will be made."

Viewers are left hoping that Wright's expertise will once again prevail, ensuring the survival of another lamb amidst the frantic pace of farm emergencies.

The show, which has been a staple on our screens since 2015, is a Channel 5 documentary that follows the lives of veterinarians Peter Wright and Julian Norton as they tend to pets and livestock in their North Yorkshire practices.

Fans of another Channel 5 hit, All Creatures Great and Small, are often delighted to discover that Peter's practice in Thirsk, Skeldale Veterinary Centre, holds historical significance.

It was here that Scottish veterinary surgeon James Herriot worked, drawing inspiration for his stories that later became the series.

Julian's practice, located in nearby Boroughbridge, may be newer, but it is teeming with animal patients.

The duo work tirelessly to support both animals and farmers across the local area's rugged landscape.

The Yorkshire Vet returns to screens tonight at 8pm on Channel 5.
