One of Netflix's biggest hits of the year has just been renewed - and fans can't wait

Netflix has released some major new dramas this year which have catapulted into its Top 10 most watched list and one of them will officially be returning for more.

Supacell premiered on the streamer on Thursday, June 27, telling the story of five ordinary people unexpectedly gaining superpowers with only one thing in common: they are all black south Londoners.

Among them is Michael Lasaki (played by Tosin Cole) whose mission it is to bring them all together in order to save the woman that he loves from a fatal future.

Described as a mix between Avengers and Top Boy, Supacell proved popular with subscribers as it reached the number one spot in the Netflix global TV series list.

It was also in the global top 10 list for a whopping six weeks and in the Top 10 in 91 countries.

The hit drama was brought to life by showrunner, creator and lead director Rapman who previously worked on the three-part YouTube series Shiro’s Story and his debut film Blue Story.

He is known for his three-part YouTube series Shiro's Story, which was his debut feature film Blue Story.

Speaking to Netflix about the renewal of season two, Rapman said: “I can’t wait for the world to see Supacell, season two.

“For me, season one was always an origin story. Season two is when the journey really begins. Season 1 was my Batman Begins, Season 2 is my Dark Knight.”

Netflix took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce the good news, sharing a Supacell season two poster along with the simple caption: “Supacell season 2 is coming."

Naturally, fans began to flock to social media to share their excitement at the drama’s impending return.

One fan wrote: “Love that! The #SickleCell community is ecstatic we are getting the awareness and attention we deserve. Such a marvellous show!” (sic)

Another impatiently asked: “When? Need it to drop now!”

While someone else commented: “Yes sir, we all here for it!” (sic)
