Lorraine: Ian H Watkins asked to use airfyer on Celeb Masterchef

Ian 'H' Watkins has confessed to querying Celebrity MasterChef producers about the possibility of utilising an air fryer on the esteemed BBC programme.

The 48-year-old pop sensation from Steps is set to join the culinary competition in the renowned kitchen, alongside a host of famous faces aiming to wow judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace as the beloved show makes its return on Tuesday (August 13).

Fans will see H compete against a variety of stars including This Morning's Craig Doyle, reality TV star Charlotte Crosby, broadcaster Edith Bowman, and TV and radio personality Snoochie Shy.

In anticipation of the premiere, H made an appearance on ITV's Lorraine, where he divulged details about his stint on the show and his unusual enquiry.

Chatting with guest presenter Ranvir Singh, H revealed: "I have zero cooking experience. My cooking consists of an air fryer and a microwave. I haven't turned my oven on in about three years because I have a small oven and it's called an air fryer.", reports Wales Online.

Ranvir queried: "Did you find out before you signed up for MasterChef whether there was an air fryer available to you? " To which H conceded: "Yeah I did, I asked and they point blank said 'no'."

He elaborated: "The reason I did is because I wanted to change my family dynamic. I've got twin boys and we have transformed our family form the way we look at a menu to the way we make our food."

"It's not a completely family immersive event now. We make our own pasta and we make our own pizzas outside."

He also confessed in the past that he has never cooked for family or friends, revealing his "usual menu consists either of a takeaway or tapas style 'picky bits' from a packet... or bring your own! ".

The inaugural episode of Heat will see five fresh celebrities weekly tackling their initial daunting task, the infamous 'Under The Cloche' challenge where they must create a dish from scratch demonstrating their culinary skills.
