Emmerdale teases major character return after being locked up

Emmerdale: Angelica reveals she was driving

Emmerdale aired a huge update for Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes) on Monday (August 12) as she is due to return to the village on day release. As viewers of the ITV soap will know, Heath Hope (Sebastian Dowling) was killed in a car accident on New Year's Eve.

It was inititally believed his twin sister Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) was driving and caused the crash, however, she denied being behind the wheel when police questioned her about the incident.

Distraught Cathy pointed the finger at Angelica but she also denied being the fateful driver. But when Heath's funeral arrived, Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) found her daughter by Heath’s grave and wasn't prepared for what she was about to say.

Angelica crumbled and told her mum that she had been driving when the car crashed, and she ultimately caused Heath's death. Angelica was sent to a secure children's home after being found responsible for the Heath's death and subsequently lying about it.

The 15-year-old received a custodial sentence and was handed eight months in the facility. She hasn't been seen on screen since her emotional goodbye to her family in March, however, it appears Angelica is returning home for a flying visit.

During the latest trip to the village, Nicola received a telephone call from Angelica's children's home and confirmed the teenager was allowed home, although Jimmy (Nick Miles) appeared unfazed by the news.

"It's brilliant news", she told Jimmy as she beamed with happiness, "the unit was phoning to confirm Angelica's day release tomorrow."

Jimmy coldly replied: "Which we knew was happening."

Biting back, Nicola added: "But we have both been around long enough to know if a spanner can be put in the works then someone will find that spanner."

Not showing much enthusiasm for his daughter's day release, Jimmy soon turned the conversation to his struggling businesses.

Will Angelica return to the village tomorrow? Emmerdale fans will have to wait and see.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
