Yorkshire Vet star Peter Wright addresses return to All Creatures Great And Small

The Yorkshire Vet: David marries Megan in France

Yorkshire Vet’s Peter Wright has spoken out on whether he would return to All Creatures Great And Small, the drama based on the life of his famous employer Alf Wight.

Yorkshire Vet is back this week for season 19 on Channel 5 with beloved vet Peter Wright now working out of Grace Lane Vets in Kirkbymoorside in North Yorkshire.

He previously worked at Skeldale Veterinary Centre in Thirsk where he was trained personally by none other than vet and All Creatures Great And Small creature Alf Wight, aka James Herriot.

As well as the docu-series Yorkshire Vet, Channel 5 viewers have loved watching the latest adaptation of All Creatures Great And Small which was inspired by Wright’s work in the 1930s and 1940s.

But it was last year when two worlds combined as Peter made an unexpected cameo in All Creatures Great And Small, much to viewers’ delight.

While speaking to Express.co.uk, the 67-year-old addressed whether or not he would want to return to the show and fans are thrilled with his answer.

“If I had the opportunity to go back in it again, I would jump at the chance”, Peter said.

“And I think you’ve got to have an equity card for bigger roles but sadly, I don’t think I’ll qualify for that!

“I was pretty useless at acting, it’s not my cup of tea acting. I do my best.”

Unfortunately, it didn’t exactly go according to plan when Peter did make his All Creatures debut.

“They didn’t show it on the All Creatures programme itself but they did show it on the documentary.

“All I had to do was get off the bus with my newspaper tucked under my arm and walk across the green and I heard the director shout ‘Cut!’

“And I look around, and there was my newspaper lying on the ground so I couldn’t even do that!

“It was a great pleasure and a great thrill for me to be involved with that. It was truly something I won’t forget.”

With All Creatures returning for seasons five and six, perhaps fans will once again see Peter show up in a special role.

The Yorkshire Vet is on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5
