BBC's Jon Kay says 'thanks for the last few weeks' as he bids farewell to co-star

BBC Breakfast: Jon thanks colleague for her work on Olympics

Jon Kay bid farewell to Katie Gornall on Monday's BBC Breakfast as he thanked her for presenting the Olympic 2024 coverage from Paris over the past few weeks.

After playing a montage from the 2024 Olympics, Katie, who appeared via video link, admitted to feeling emotional while watching the clips of Team GB.

However, as the segment drew to a close, Jon took a moment to praise his colleague. Referencing the next Olympics, the host said: "See you there, Katie, look forward to it, only four more years to go."

Praising her for the Olympic coverage, Jon added: "Thanks so much for the last few weeks, it's been brilliant."

Before signing off the interview, Jon and Sally Nugent spoke with Katie about Team GB and their Olympic victories.

When speaking about the video montage, Katie said: "Gosh I was getting emotional listening to that then.

"There have been so many incredible memories throughout these games. The things that immediately spring to mind are some of those Gold Medal moments.

"And there are things that come out of nowhere and I think a highlight for me was in the artistic swimming when Britain won their first-ever medal."

She added: "That to me sums up a lot of these Olympics for Team GB, those moments you weren't expecting."

Sally chipped in: "We know in terms of total medals, Team GB hit their target, but not so much in the gold.

How much of an investigation will there be into the lack of gold medals...not total lack but that there could have been more."

"You're right, Sally," Katie replied before adding: "14 Gold medals won by Team GB at these games, that's down from Tokyo where they won 22.

"Of course, because the medals table is determined by that it means Britain is seventh in the medals table, their lowest finish for 20 years, below the likes of France and the Netherlands."

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
