TM: Rylan says 'King Charles has won the Olympics'

This Morning was paused by host Rylan Clark this week as he issued some urgent “breaking news” to viewers.

The former X Factor star was chatting with co-host Josie Gibson and panellist Gyles Brandreth about the Paris Olympics after the closing ceremony on Sunday (August 11), before the Paralympic Games kick off in a few weeks.

Congratulating Team GB on their achievements, Gyles and Rylan got pretty excited about the sports.

Gyles said: “We enjoyed the French experience hugely and we enjoyed all our medals, which is a fantastic achievement.” Rylan commented: “We were third in the medals table, the collective medal table.”

Gyles then chimed in: “If you count the King as the head of state of this country and all the other Commonwealth countries, I think our King Charles as head of state did better than all the others!”

That’s when Rylan opted to share the “breaking news” for the day, telling fans: “He’s won the Olympics. King Charles has won the Olympics, there’s your breaking news story for today!”

It came after Gyles was "thrown" by Rylan's new look, with the presenter rocking blonde streaks in his dark hair that he swore was down to the sun rather than highlights.

Gyles told him: "We’re excited to be with you but a bit thrown, because your look, if I may say so… there’s something different about you."

"Can I say the sun has done you a favour? You’re looking younger than springtime. When you and I walked past two boys from Mr England..." Gyles continued, as Rylan gushed: "We both had a swoon, didn’t we?"

Gyles said: "We both had a swoon but they also stepped back out of respect, because they can see that the older man can still manage it."

Fans on social media were loving Rylan’s sunny presence on the show this morning, with one X user tweeting: “This Morning is hysterical today. Josie and Rylan are perfection.” And another said; “Absolutely giggled at This Morning today, has deffo brightened a miserable morning.”

Another said: “Love Rylan, breath of fresh air. Great to see him back.” And a fourth fan posted: “Loving Josie and Rylan together! So much fun… finally. Thank you for brightening my day.”
