Britons have been basking in the quintessential British summer experience, with families heading to the seaside for a sun-soaked weekend, complete with beach fun and the classic fish and chips.

The UK boasts an array of stunning seaside towns, featuring picturesque beaches and vibrant piers that draw crowds eager to enjoy the sunshine. Even on cloudier days, these coastal havens are bustling with tourists seeking a slice of maritime charm.

Which? has unveiled its rankings of the best and worst seaside towns across the UK, placing Bamburgh in Northumberland at the top for holidaymakers. Conversely, Bangor in Wales found itself languishing at the bottom, with Mablethorpe, Burnham-on-Sea, Bognor Regis, and Skegness also receiving less-than-stellar reviews.

Determining the best and worst seaside destinations is inherently subjective, and this holds true when considering which town holds the title of the poshest. The Telegraph has curated a list of the ten most upscale seaside spots, with Polzeath in Cornwall claiming the number one spot, reports the Mirror.

This small resort town within the civil parish of St Minver is known for its hefty average house price of £1.25 million, with 43% of properties valued over £1 million. Polzeath also enjoys a "long-standing connection" to royalty, having been a favoured summer retreat for Prince William and Prince Harry, who spent time in nearby Rock and surfed at Polzeath.

POLZEATH, ENGLAND - AUGUST 20: People enjoy the fine summer weather on the beach at Polzeath on August 20, 2013 near Padstow, England. Polzeath is one of the closest beaches to the traditional Cornish fishing harbour town of Padstow which has become one of the countys most popular holiday destinations, helped in part by the establishment of a chain of business by celebrity chef Rick Stein and the popularity of the local area as a domestic UK holiday choice for people including the Prime Minister David Cameron and his family. However the tourist boom has had a downside for some residents, with second home buyers driving up property prices and forcing some local people away from the town and the local area. Anna White of The Telegraph notes: "It was once a sleepy surfing haven, but the popularity of Polzeath has exploded over the last 20 years with A-list residents and visitors piling in."

"Coldplay's Chris Martin has a place nearby and the rumour mill has his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow house hunting in the village too. Maybe it all started with Prince William's stag do, when he was spotted in the surf."

Daymer Beach and Baby Bay have been highlighted as superb swimming spots, while Polzeath beach is hailed as a surfer's haven. For those who prefer land-based activities, The Rumps offers a scenic walk, after which visitors can indulge in some delectable fare at the Mariners pub in Rock.

More laid-back dining options include Cracking Crab, which boasts views over Polzeath beach.
