The Umbrella Academy's latest twist involving Number Five and Lila Pitts has sparked outrage among a significant segment of its fans.

In the show's much-anticipated fourth and final season, which dropped on Netflix today (August 8), audiences saw Aidan Gallagher's Number Five become unexpectedly close with Ritu Arya's Lila Pitts. This development is particularly controversial as Lila is married to Diego Hargreaves, played by David Castaneda, who also happens to be Five's brother.

Fans on Reddit didn't hold back their disappointment, with comments like: "Five would never do that to his brother" and "MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY, I UNDERSTAND THEY'VE BEEN STUCK TOGETHER FOR 6 YEARS BUT I THOUGHT THEY WERE BUDDIES."

Some even expressed sheer disbelief: "Lila literally fell in love with the uncle of her children, who killed her family in front of her and is the cause of every misfortune in her life. And don't get me started on Five, who went from being a miserable selfish grumpy menace to, 'I aim to please'. Like since when?".

Meanwhile, there are viewers who saw the plot twist between Five and Lila coming. One shared: "I started expecting something was going to happen between them (I was really hoping I was wrong) and I totally get why it did, since they were alone for six years."

Another argued in favour of the pairing, suggesting an understanding for Five's change after a long spell of isolation, reports the Mirror. "He had a mannequin the first few decades. I applaud them for taking 7 full years to reach that point," they said.

"Honestly, I always thought they'd be great together," adding: "They are the only ones who really would understand each others trauma, with their peculiar pasts. And they have a fun back and forth."
