The Umbrella Academy season four is ready to watch, although many fans are unhappy to say goodbye.

Since debuting in 2019, the Netflix drama The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerald Way, has attracted a loyal fanbase of subscribers.

There has been a two-year wait between series three and four but finally, the fourth outing has landed on the streamer but its return is bittersweet. It was previously announced that there would be no more following the fourth series, consisting of just six episodes, in comparison to the usual 10.

Even though it is disappointing to see The Umbrella Academy cut off when it remains at the top of its game, according to showrunner Steve Blackman, this was always the plan.

He had already planned how the show was going to wrap up and unfortunately for dedicated fans, this meant ending the drama after a fourth season.

Speaking to SFX magazine, Blackman described the final series as a “natural ending” for The Umbrella Academy.

He commented: “I knew how I wanted to end the show from [the] very beginning.

“We wanted to explain the Jennifer Incident, and to talk about [Sir Reginald] Hargreeves’s origins. There will still be mysteries left, but I think the bigger ones are solved.”

In season four, fans finally found out how Ben Hargreeves (played by Justin H Min) died with Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) killing him and Jennifer (Victoria Sawal).

This was because the pair were growing closer which proved dangerous for the world, given that she had the powerful element of durango within her and Ben had marigold.

Being within close proximity with one another posed a global danger and so Reginald put a stop to it by killing the pair of them.

Season four may bring The Umbrella Academy Netflix show to a close, the comic book series by Gerald Way has not yet finished.

And more interestingly, Blackman has stated that the two mediums may not end the same way.

“I talked to Gerard Way the other day, and he was very satisfied with the way we did it”, he said.

“It may not match what he does, but I think he loves some of the things we did.”

According to NME, the fourth volume of the comic book, which largely inspired the third series, is yet to be released.

The Umbrella Academy is available to watch on Netflix.
