It's officially been confirmed how many seasons Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon will run for. The epic finale of season two aired on Sunday evening, leaving fans wondering when and if they'll be getting any more instalments.

During a press conference on Monday to discuss the season two season finale, showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal revealed that there will be two more seasons before it concludes with season four.

He also confirmed that the third season is still in a writing stage and the plan is for it to go into production in "earlyish 2025", meaning fans still have a long way to wait until they get new episodes.

When asked how many episodes the third series will be, Ryan responded: "I haven’t had discussions with HBO about it.

"I would just anticipate the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, will continue to be the same from Season 2 on," Variety reports.

Enthusiastic viewers were left fuming after the season two finale was left on a massive cliffhanger.

The HBO drama's eighth episode picked up with Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Emma D'Arcy) taking advantage of her swell in power, while Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) is concerned for Helaena (Phia Saban) and Aemond's (Ewan Mitchell) rages are becoming impossible to reign in.

As a result of the show's huge scale and massive productions costs, they'd already waited two years after the first season finished airing in 2022.

Fans flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their frustrations as one person fumed: "HOTD season 2 finale was a dud in my eyes. Such a big setup that we will have to wait at least 2 years for."
