Teletubbies baby Jess Smith brings her daughter on This Morning

This Morning fans were left stunned as Jess Smith appeared on the show, reminiscing about her time as the famous Tellytubbies star.

Some may already know that the actress was only 14 months old when she landed her first acting gig as the Sun Baby on the beloved BBC children's show, which took households by storm in the 90s.

Jess, now 30, appeared on the daytime programme alongside fellow Tellytubby stars Nikky Smedley, 53, who played Laa-Laa, and John Simmit, 60, known for his role as Dipsy.

The former child star, who is now a proud mum, appeared with her five-month-old daughter Poppy to chat about their time on the show with hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.

Viewers were shocked to see how much Jess had grown up, with some branding it as "nonsense" and claiming they saw no resemblance to the famous TV toddler, reports the Mirror.

Another echoed: "You can not tell she was the baby, don't talk nonsense #ThisMorning," while others said they felt "old" after seeing Jess all grown up and with her own child.

They wrote: "The baby had a baby now I feel old #ThisMorning," while another agreed: "The sun baby is all grown up and has a baby of her own. I feel ancient #ThisMorning. A third viewer even requested: "Would like her baby to take over her legacy...WTF#ThisMorning."

Discussing her time on the show and its impact on her life, Jess admitted that she couldn't escape her television past, with "everyone" still recognising her as the baby in the sky.

The new mum shared with Josie and Craig: "I don't, but everyone I'm with knows so everyone else tells everybody. So, my partner Ricky tells everybody and so does his family, so does my family. With a laugh, she declared: "Everybody tells everybody so it doesn't matter where I go, everybody knows."

Jess then revealed that getting the role was purely down to luck.It turned out that she was in the right place at the right time and being "a bit of crybaby", as she put it, led to her being noticed and cast for the role. The actress elaborated: "I was being weighed at the hospital.

"Apparently, I was a crybaby at the time. The only way my mum could settle me was to take me to the hospital for the midwives, and that was the furthest point in the village, so that's where she took me.

"And the producer had been in the same day and asked to forward any baby names. So, that's what happened and I believe it was a mini audition and then, yeah, got the part."

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
