GMB's Kate Garraway forced to issue apology in awkward Labour MP clash

GMB: Kate apologises to guest for number of questions

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway was left apologising on air after a guest was overwhelmed by a barrage of questions during an early interview.

On the ITV programme, Kate and co-host Ed Balls delved into the recent surge in arrests following nationwide riots. The presenters informed their audience that the Home Secretary has declared courts ready to deliver prompt justice, leading to a discussion with Courts Minister Heidi Alexander for further insights.

Kate queried: "Good to know the courts are on standby, but where are those found convicted going to go?"

Highlighting the strain on prisons and the creation of 500 temporary places, she expressed concerns about potential early prisoner releases come September, reports the Mirror.

She questioned the nature of the sentences to be handed down, asking: "So, what kind of sentences will they get? How long will they realistically be able to be contained? Will it be comparable to some of the climate activities sentences that we've seen, which is at least four years?"

Caught off guard by the flurry of inquiries, Heidi Alexander responded: "Good morning Kate. Lots of questions there!".

Quick to acknowledge the oversight, Kate interjected: "Sorry, there was you're right, apologies."

The MP then clarified to the hosts that sentencing decisions rest with the judges.

She remarked: "Anyone watching our television screens and seeing the images that you and I have seen, this violent disorder, the racist attacks, the dangerous extremism, will realise that in all likelihood there are some very serious offences that have been committed."

"It will be for the Crown Prosecution Service to determine what charges are brought against individuals, evidence will need to be collated so there are strong cases going before the court and then of course, as I say, it will be judges who determine those sentences."

In other news, ITV audiences welcomed Kate back to her presenting role on the show this week after a brief hiatus.

The seasoned presenter, aged 57, informed her Instagram fans that she had to "disappeared" from the public eye when her father was taken to hospital following a collapse.

Kate described the incident as frightening but reassured everyone that he is now stable and on the mend in the hospital.

Expressing gratitude towards the NHS for their exceptional care of her dad, she continued with heartfelt thanks: "Huge thanks too to my incredible friends @itv and @smoothradio particularly @ranvirtv @charlottehawkins1 @tinahobleyofficial @myleeneklass for yet again changing their plans to cover for me so I could put my family first."

Good Morning Britain continues weekdayson ITV from 6am.
