EastEnders 'reveals' new killer in Walford for summer storyline - but fans divided

EastEnders: Tommy Moon calls police on mum Kat Slater

EastEnders enthusiasts are on tenterhooks as they anticipate another resident of Walford potentially turning into a murderer in an unexpected twist.

Recently it has been unveiled that prominent characters Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and her son Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) will be at the heart of a harrowing child to parent abuse plot this summer.

The storyline began to unfold earlier this year when Tommy's behaviour became increasingly concerning after Kat terminated her relationship with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). The youngster has since exhibited a rebellious streak, acting out against his family, ditching school and even stealing from the Minute Mart.

Yet, recent instalments have depicted a much darker turn, with Kat suffering physical aggression from Tommy in appalling scenes. After Tommy's attempt to reunite Kat with her former flame, Phil Mitchell, backfires, he grew hostile.

Over the upcoming weeks and months, EastEnders fans will witness Tommy exploit his troubling behaviours to exert control over Kat, deeply impacting not only their bond but casting a shadow over the entire Slater-Moon clan, reports the Daily Star.

Amidst the escalating drama, avid followers of the show speculate that this distressing storyline might lead Tommy down a path similar to that of his father, notorious villain Michael Moonthe sociopath who arrived in Walford back in October 2010.

In discussions on an EastEnders Facebook fan page, speculation is rife, with one keen fan posing the question: "Does anyone think that Tommy Moon is capable of murder like Bobby or Ben?"

Viewers of EastEnders have been vocal on their thoughts about a darkening plotline, as one fan expressed: "I agree. He's turning downright sinister."

Another concern was penned by someone who commented: "Didn't Bobby and Ben kill by accident? I think Tommy is capable of cold blood murder in a meditated pre-planned way."

The speculation continues as a fan added: "I hope not but I think he will. Just what we need another killer in Albert Square," while others hoped against this development saying, "I don't want them to go down that route."

The debate extends to suspicions about Tommy's potential victim, with a viewer suggesting: "“Perhaps Tommy will get rid of Nish.” Someone else replied: “That would be a good twist - someone unexpected and it wouldn’t paint Tommy in a really bad light.”

Chris Clenshaw, the Executive Producer, spoke out about the controversial child to parent abuse storyline, asserting: "Kat is well-known in Albert Square for her no-nonsense attitude and fiery temper, but this storyline will explore how Tommy manipulates Kat's unequivocal love for her son to exert his anger and elicit control."

Clenshaw also said: "Jessie [Wallace] and Sonny's [Kendall] performances have thoughtfully portrayed the complex realities of child to parent abuse with compassion and understanding, and the storyline will demonstrate how Tommy's behaviour effects their relationship and the wider Slater-Moon family as a whole."

On the subject of ensuring authenticity and sensitivity, Clenshaw stated: "To ensure we accurately and sensitively portray the realities of child to parent abuse, we have worked alongside Family Based Solutions, PEGS and NSPCC as well as other experts in the field."
