Channel 4's Yorkshire By The Sea has viewers gobsmacked as presenter 'ditched'

Saltburn: Views of the North Yorkshire seaside town

In an unexpected twist, the brand new Channel 4 series Yorkshire By The Sea has captivated viewers with its lack of a presenter.

The show's premiere at 8pm on Monday allowed audiences to indulge in the scenic beauty of the Yorkshire coastline. As the episode unfolded, fans grew fond of the volunteers at the seabird sanctuary and the diligent locals working on their boats or taking a plunge into Scarborough's South Bay.

Without a presenter guiding the narrative, viewers expressed their delight; many took to social media platforms to share their appreciation for the fresh format that centered on residents sharing their own stories.

One fan enthused: "Wow what a lovely start. No presenter, no narration. Just the landscape and the people from the coast telling their own stories."

A second viewer was charmed by the programme, posting photos of the stunning Yorkshire vistas: "Loving this show #YorkshireByTheSea. Isn't #YorkshireCoast just outstanding?", reports the Mirror.

Among other comments, a third stated: "The good people of Yorkshire (not the morons in Rotherham chanting Yorkshire) now on Channel 4. #Yorkshirebythesea Takes me back to the 80's."

and a fourth declared, "What an absolutely beautiful programme."

Earlier in April, it was announced that Channel 4 had commissioned a new four-part series to celebrate both the community and vistas of the Yorkshire Coast, focusing on those who inhabit and labour along its edges.

However, the series won't just be about beach life and holiday fun. Each episode will follow locals who are working hard to make a living along the coast.

Living on the rapidly eroding coastline presents daily challenges, and the series will also explore how the area is responding to climate change through innovation and new industries. In addition to this, it will show how residents are diversifying to ensure they can continue to earn a living on land and at sea.

Show commissioner Jasper Hone, said: "This beautiful series will showcase the breathtaking landscape of the Yorkshire coastline. But also show how communities are facing - and tackling - the impact of the climate crisis in their daily lives.

Meanwhile, executive producer for True North, Christian Hills, said: "We're clearly biased, but this series combines the most glorious coastal landscape with the warmth and wit of genuine Yorkshire characters. Telling their fascinating stories in their own words."
