The Olympics have taken over the television schedule, forcing the BBC to rearrange its regular programming to accommodate the various sporting events. The Paris Games, which officially began on July 26 with a divisive opening ceremony, will see just over two weeks of sports coverage dominating the BBC's TV schedules.

Athletics, sailing, cycling and more have taken centre stage, providing viewers with some thrilling moments and historic sporting achievements. As a result of the Games, many popular shows have had their usual time slots shifted.

EastEnders has frequently been moved to BBC Two, while The One Show has gone on a break.

The Olympics will continue to be broadcast extensively on the BBC for another week, but many may be wondering when the games will conclude and when the TV schedule will return to normal. We explain below.

The final day of the Games is set for Sunday, August 11, when the last batch of medals will be awarded. The Olympics will conclude with a closing ceremony, scheduled to be aired on BBC One from 7pm, which will officially end the competition and pass the baton to the 2028 hosts, Brisbane.

A few hours after the women's marathon concludes, the closing ceremony will take place in a more traditional format at the Stade de France. Organisers have revealed that the Stade de France will be transformed into a massive theatre featuring over a hundred performers, acrobats, dancers and circus artists.
