Love Your Weekend's Alan Titchmarsh issues urgent warning to anyone with a lawn

Alan Titchmarsh shares important rule when cutting grass

Viewers of Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh were given a crucial tip from the green-fingered maestro himself this weekend.

In a discussion about the upkeep of garden lawns and the art of perfect maintenance, Alan imparted some sage advice for those struggling with unkempt lawn edges. Demonstrating with a pair of garden shears, Alan highlighted that a well-kept lawn edge can make all the difference, ensuring no one will scrutinise the middle of your lawn.

Lawn care specialist David Domoney joined the conversation, remarking to Alan: "I suppose with lawns and the edging it's about manicuring, isn't it? It's a trip to the hairdressers."

However, Alan interjected with a cautionary note for viewers, saying: "Yes, but before you do the manicure, of course, you've got to have a proper look at the body."

He expressed his gratitude to David for his insights before hinting at more exciting content ahead in the show, reports the Mirror.

Alan teased: "Coming up there'll be scrubbing, brushing and trimming. I'm not off to a spa with David, but I'm helping to get sheep ready for the show season. Yes, Dotty, you're on!"

"Stay tuned to see what it takes to get Dotty and her woolly companions buffed, primed and ready for show," he added, as viewers were treated to a glimpse of a stunning ewe, horns and all, ready for her moment in the spotlight.

Alan and David have been a dynamic duo since 2012, creating a stellar prime-time partnership that has flourished for both. In an excited tone, David shared his enthusiasm about teaming up with Alan on his first major gig back in the day: "I am so pleased to be working with Alan. He has a great sense of humour and together we will transform gardens around the country with a bit of fun thrown in for good measure."

"We are going to be busy filming over the next few months. There will be lots of exciting features. It is going to be a real treat for all gardening enthusiasts. I had so much fun working on the afternoon show, it's great that we are going to be continuing the partnership on prime-time."

This comes following Alan's handy tip for dealing with unsightly bald spots on lawns, where he explained: "If you get bare patches in the middle of your lawn - where the goal mouth is or where you've been hanging out the washing or a place that's regularly trodden over and just worn out - then you can of course just prick it over with a fork and reseed it."

"But in the middle of summer, the grass may take a while to grow and look unsightly. It's much easier to replace it with a piece of turf - but how do you do it so the turf fits perfectly?"

He provided a savvy tip for this garden woe suggesting to take a larger piece of turf than the bare spot, lay it on top, and cut through to ensure a perfect fit on the space below.
