Coronation Street: Bethany Platt says her goodbyes

Coronation Street's beloved character Bethany Platt, portrayed by Lucy Fallon, is rumoured to be embarking on a significant new storyline, much to the dismay of some fans.

The popular character first graced the cobbles in 2015 and, as Sarah's (Tina O'Brien) daughter, has experienced her fair share of drama. In 2017, she was at the heart of a devastating child exploitation and grooming plot, earning Lucy an Inside Soap Award for her performance. However, she left the soap in January 2020, leaving viewers heartbroken.

She exited the show to explore new opportunities but returned to the cobbles four years after her departure. Since her comeback, she has been central to several major storylines. Now, it's suggested that the Corrie team are preparing a massive new plot for Lucy's character, Bethany.

Reports suggest that Bethany will start feeling increasingly insecure about her looks, leading her to travel abroad for cosmetic surgery, which doesn't go as planned, reports the Liverpool Echo.

"This is a huge story for Bethany, and viewers will see her travel to a foreign clinic for cosmetic surgery," a source revealed to Metro. "As with a lot of these unregulated procedures, it doesn't exactly go to plan."

Corrie fans quickly voiced their opinions on Bethany's upcoming storyline. On X, previously known as Twitter, one viewer commented: "This sounds abysmal."

One viewer expressed their disappointment: "I thought we were turning a corner lately I've really been enjoying #corrie and then I read this it sounds awful plus the overkill of Bethany really irritates me."

Another was unsure about the plot twist: "I just don't know why this character would do this... I'll be turning off", and one added scepticism despite potential talent shining through: "I know Lucy will smash it but still sounds so ridiculous."

Conversely, there are those who welcomed the news with open arms. A fan gleefully commented: "About time Bethany got a decent storyline. Can't wait for this," while another endorsed the drama enthusiastically: "This is going to be an exciting story."
