Emmerdale: Victoria Sugden is arrested by police

Emmerdale fans need to brace themselves for high drama as the ITV soap has unveiled a new trailer hinting at John Sugden's explosive arrival, complete with an unexpected family twist.

In spoilers released for the upcoming episodes, viewers will see Victoria Sugden (played by Isabel Hodgins) gobsmacked as she unravels a long-held family secret. Upcoming scenes will find Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) in a bit of a pickle when his car breaks down, making it impossible for him to turn up at a dear friend's funeral.

Kind-hearted as ever, Victoria decides to step in and offers to chauffeur him to the service, not wanting to leave Eric stranded.

But a series of awkward mishaps unfold when they reach the sad occasion, leading to Victoria accidentally offending the deceased's son. To her utter astonishment, she learns his name is John Sugden, which sends shockwaves through her.

It doesn't take long for Eric to sheepishly suggest that John may well be Victoria's half-brother and perhaps another child of her late father, Jack Sugden, reports the Mirror.

Fate seems to play its hand when back in the village, heartthrob Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) gets buzzed about a nearby breakdown, only to discover that the person in question is none other than John.

Eric and Victoria are in for yet another surprise when they bump into John again, this time within Emmerdale's own confines, where he quickly starts turning heads and stirring the pot.

Earlier this month, the show announced that Oliver Farnworth would join the cast as the enigmatic and charming John Sugden.

Adding to the excitement, Emmerdale has now shared a dramatic new promo video which shows John in a field with Victoria, before Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) comes into view, receiving a formidable stare from the enigmatic newcomer.

The intriguing voiceover says: "A new Sugden is coming to Emmerdale..."

Fans of the soap will remember that Aaron was once married to Robert Sugden, who exited the show in 2019 after being incarcerated for the death of Lee Posner.

Robert inadvertently caused Lee's demise following an assault, which occurred after Lee brutally raped his sister Victoria.

Accepting his crime, Robert severed all connections with the village and his loved ones upon his sentencing.

However, viewers have been holding out hope for his return, particularly following suggestions that Robert may not have been responsible for Lee's death.

Lee sustained head injuries from a punch thrown by Robert, but it was later revealed that Lee had also been struck by his brother Luke, which could have resulted in his death.

With a new Sugden character making their entrance into the village, could this signal Robert's return as well?
