This Morning guest awkwardly tries to move interview on after 'cheeky' Dianna confession

Dancer Wayne Sleep chats about Princess Diana

It is no secret that Princess Diana and Wayne Sleep shared a special moment together in each other's company, when they teamed up to dance to Billy Joel's Uptown Girl, back in 1985.

Together, the British dancer and the People's Princess performed the iconic dance routine at the Royal Opera House. Appearing on This Morning (Thursday, August 1st), Wayne was once again quizzed on his encounter with Diana.

However, he appeared to want to skim over the details of his time with the Princess Of Wales, with hosts Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson needing to steer the interview back to talk about their time together.

Despite seemingly wanting to deviate, Wayne did share a cheeky quip that caused an eruption of laughter in the ITV studio. Delving into his time with the Princess, Wayne explained he'd been tired when he first met his Royal dance partner.

Dishing the detail on how he'd first met with Princess Diana, Wayne recalled an out of the blue phone call. Unbeknown to him, Her Royal Highness was on the receiver, she said: "I haven't met you but I want to dance with you."

Wayne went on to express his fears that their performance would be a total "laughing stock" because he felt the Princess was so "tall and beautiful" when comparing her to himself.

The Dancer confessed to Josie and Craig: "So I thought, 'I'm not going to do this'." Recalling a hilarious first conversation with Diana, he said to her: "Do you mind if we sit down, I had a very late night, and she went 'oh, you naughty boy'."

It was at that point that their friendship blossomed as Wayne had uncovered a funny side of the Princess that was rarely seen. He added: "And so we sat down and it was then I realised she had humour so we could do our one upmanship to each other with a bit of humour in it."

Elsewhere in the interview, the dancer did complain to Josie and Craig that he had done many "wonderful things" in his lifetime but everyone always wanted to know about his dance with Diana. Almost as if he couldn't escape it, even though it was nearly three decades ago.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
