Craig Revel Horwood issues four-word reply about Strictly drama in BBC Breakfast probe

Craig Revel Horwood discusses Strictly scandal

Strictly Come Dancing judge, Craig Revel Horwood issued a four-word response to BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on the ongoing drama.

The 59-year-old was probed by Naga for his views about accusations of gross misconduct on the show. Speaking about the situation, Craig simply said: "That was a shock."

He went on to say, he had not been aware and found out about the scandal in the news like everyone else as the former champion dancer detailed that he had no inside intel.

The glitzy BBC ballroom competition was thrown under the spotlight after actress Amanda Abbington first raised claims about her dancer partner Giovanni Pernice's behaviour towards her during training. He was then axed from the programme, with a whole flurry of other complaints now surfacing from past contestants.

So far two professional dancers have been let go, Giovanni and also Zara McDermott's pro-partner Graziano Di Prim, after it was alleged he'd "kicked" and "spat" at the Love Island star. He has since admitted to kicking but has continued to deny the spitting claim.

Naga wasted no time at all with bringing up the situation. Kicking off the discussion, the host asked: "Listen, can we just go straight in, let's talk about what's going on at Strictly?" In response, he told her: "That was a shock."

Wanting to know more, the BBC Radio 5 Live star quizzed: "What was a shock?" Treading carefully, Craig retorted: "Well, just finding out what's happening at Strictly." Making sure they were on the same page, Naga interjected: "Are you talking about the allegations at Strictly?"

"Yeah, the allegations," explained Craig as he went on to say: "I was completely gobsmacked by the whole thing and of course, I found out in the press because of course, the judges are all kept very separate to all the contestants and all the pros."

He commented: "The only time we ever see each other is when we're in passing to the studio so you don't really get an opportunity to know what happens in the rehearsal and that's not part of our job."

Turning the conversation to his training, Naga said: "Have you ever thought about, how you train and that relationship?" Craig told her: "I know how I was trained and it was tough."

The TV judge revealed: "I had a Russian Ballet teacher who used to have a cain and she would wack us with it, you know just so you're not pulling up from the thigh, to make you engage your hamstrings."

He reassured fans: "Obviously, that sort of training would not be available today, you know things have changed and we've come a long way in the forty years since I've trained."

The Strictly drama rages on, after 51-year-old actress Amanda first aired her claims about Giovanni's rigorous training methods in January, last year. She has demanded for the BBC to showcase the footage of their 'tense' training sessions which fuelled a misconduct investigation.

The outcome of this inquiry is expected to be announced this week, with Giovanni's team expressing confidence in his exoneration.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
