ITV GMB's Ed Balls slammed for 'inappropriate' question to Christine Lampard

GMB: Christine Lampard says she doesn't wee in the pool

Good Morning Britain's atmosphere turned tense as Ed Balls faced criticism for his "inappropriate" question to co-star Christine Lampard.

While chatting with Christine Lampard via video link before she took over the reins of ITV's Lorraine at 9am on Monday (July 29), Ed Balls couldn't resist delving into one of the day's most contentious debates is it ever acceptable to urinate in a public swimming pool?

In an unexpected twist, Ed quizzed Christine on whether she had ever relieved herself in communal waters.

Co-host Ranvir Singh initially broached the subject, asking: "A quick yes or no, pee in the pool yes or no? " Christine responded firmly: "I heard this earlier on and no is the answer. I try to tell my children not to and now a swimmer has come out to say everyone does it! That goes against everything I've been teaching."

Yet Ed pressed further, querying: "Are you really saying no ever, Christine? Ever?", reports the Mirror.

Christine reiterated her stance with an awkward laugh, clarifying that indeed, she has never urinated in a pool. She elaborated: "Oh no I'm quite nervous about that side of things, so I can't do it in public. Is that too much information for you?"

Ranvir light-heartedly remarked: "We had to know!" while Ed added: "Thank you for sharing, Christine!"

Viewers were less than impressed with the line of questioning and expressed their discontent on social media. One viewer vented on X: "God Ed I'm sure Christine doesn't want to talk about her toilet habits on national television... bit rude and inappropriate if you ask me #GMB."

One person didn't hold back their opinion, stating: "Ed Balls is an embarrassment."

However, not everyone was as critical, with some viewers sharing their own cheeky confessions. A tweet read: "Never pee in a swimming pool. But I have done it in the sea at the beach!"

Another individual shrugged off the fuss, commenting: "Oh get over it, everyone peepees in the pool whether we admit it or not. If you have to go you have to go."

Meanwhile, someone else recounted a humorous anecdote: "I once got told off by the life guard for peeing in the swimming pool."

The topic surfaced when Olympic swimmers revealed that during races, they sometimes have no choice but to urinate in the pool prompting Ed and Ranvir Singh to assert that taking a quick break to use the facilities is "easy".
