Vivian Kong one match from HK's first medal

Hong Kong's world number one fencer, Vivian Kong, is another step closer to reaching the Olympic podium, after sweeping Ukraine's Olena Kryvytska in the quarter-finals of the women's individual epee on Saturday at the Grand Palais. Kong started the first round with a strong 3-0 lead. The Ukrainian was able to come back with four points, but the SAR fencing star fought back hard to finish the second period 9-4. Kong then eased her way into the final four with six additional points in the final round to win 15-7, making this bout her best performance so far. Competition now moves onto the podium piste for the beginning of the semi-finals, where Kong will take on Nelli Differt, the 12th-ranked fencer from Estonia, in the semi-final at 1am Hong Kong time. Eszter Muhari of Hungary or France's Auriane Mello-Breton await in the final later.
