Vivian Kong advances to round of 16

Fencer Vivian Kong has advanced in the women’s epee individual event after beating Aya Hussein of Egypt 15-11 in the round of 32 on Saturday at the Grand Palais. The SAR's fencing queen was able to skip the round of 64 because of her world number one ranking. The match began with a tight first period with Kong trailing by only one point, 2-3, but she was able to overcome the deficit and took control by the end of the second period with a lead of 11-8. By the final round, Kong secured the win by scoring three points in the final minute to get her a spot in the round of 16, where she will face Hadley Husisian of the US.
