A Place in the Sun: Ben Hillman offers buyers advice on offer

In a surprising turn of events on A Place in The Sun, host Ben Hillman was gobsmacked when a couple abruptly ended their hunt and exited an unusual property.

The Channel 4 favourite made a comeback to our screens on Monday (July 22) with the ever-charming Ben steering the ship. He had the enviable task of locating the perfect holiday retreat for Ian and Emily in eastern Mallorca.

Armed with a robust budget north of £400k, Ben lined up several impressive options. Unfortunately, the first pair of houses failed to charm Ian and Emily, who are parents to three youngsters.

Things took a twist when a four-bedroom townhouse entered the fray, boasting a tempting price tag of just £358,974. But no sooner had they stepped through the door, the couple paused the tour in its tracks, leaving Ben astounded.

To a visibly surprised Ben, Emily confessed: "It's not doing it for me. Sorry, it feels like a basement. It's the complete opposite of what I thought I might see," reports the Mirror.

Ian noticed his wifes dismay and remarked, "This has shocked you hasn't it? " only to have her concede. Realising the situation, a downcast Ben exclaimed: "Oh no."

However, the day's setbacks were far from over. Parsing their reaction, Ben queried, "Doesn't seem to be worthwhile looking round anymore, does it?" Faced with this uncomfortable truth, the couple concurred with a reluctant "No," making for the exit almost immediately.

Ben, left alone with the camera, expressed his bewilderment: "Well, I wasn't expecting that at all! I thought they loved this area, and all the properties that go with it, but clearly, this wasn't the one for them."

He went on, reflecting on the day's efforts: "We've seen some that are 'too high' seen some that are 'too big, and now this one is 'too small.' What is going to work!?"

Despite the property search improving with the final house, the couple chose not to place any offers. Emily shared with Ben at the conclusion of the episode: "Each property taught us something new about what we're looking for."
