Richard Madeley opens up on horror crash with Judy Finnigan after forgetting driving rule
Richard Madeley has confessed he "wrote off" a car while on holiday after forgetting about a well-known local law.
He was travelling with Judy Finnigan, his wife of nearly forty years and former This Morning co-host, in France on a month-long trip when disaster struck.
The veteran broadcaster, who currently hosts Good Morning Britain, suggested that he forgot that he was supposed to drive on the other side of the road in the European nation.
Richard told the Daily Mail: "I spent a month in France and had a French car while I was out there and I ended up driving on the left side of the road. I totally wrote off the car. Luckily, neither of us were hurt."

Richard was travelling in France with his wife of nearly forty years, Judy Finnigan (Image: Dave Benett/Getty Images))Andi, who was informing viewers about a chance to win £90,000 and a Mercedes at the time, asked him about a mystery car in Richard's "prime time" parking space.
He said:"I had to park a long way away from the door we use to get in, Richard, because you have got a prime time car parking space but it's not your car there. Whose car does that belong to?"
Richard explained that he'd borrowed his wife's car as he needed it for the week, saying: "Yes, I crashed mine last week or somebody crashed it."
Andi replied that this was a "revelation" to him; he joked that he'd like to see Richard in the Volkswagen Beetle and that it would be "amazing".
Richard, who promised to send Andi a picture, has previously been photographed driving the cream Beetle with Judy in the passenger seat.

The outspoken presenter was praised for "putting Angela Rayner in her place" on an episode of Good Morning Britain this week.
The Deputy Prime Minister was invited onto the popular breakfast show to discuss the new Labour government and face a grilling from Richard and co-host Kate Garraway.
Rayner explained that they "can't do everything all at once" and pointed out a "dire inheritance" from the previous Tory government, but Richard was quick to counter this argument.
He said: "Well it's interesting, and I wonder how much longer this will go on for, you're in that kind of Honeymoon period where you can keep blaming the previous government and what you inherited."
