BBC Breakfast viewers switch off as they issue demand for 'real news stories'

Viewers took to Twitter after tiring of Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt's discussions on BBC Breakfast, which included a debate about whether kids should be taken out of school in term time.

Some were using the BBC as an alternative to Sky News, after the channel was hit by technical errors and forced to repeat old documentaries - and it's clear that many weren't content. However, even existing fans expressed desires to switch over in today's Twitter storm.

"Wish #BBCBreakfast was affected by Microsoft outage," swiped one viewer. "I wondered what was going on at #skynews I regularly switch to it because #bbcbreakfast is so bad," echoed another.

"There’s no morning news show on @SkyNews. Tried BBC," exclaimed a third, before concluding he was "going for a walk" instead. A fourth added: "#BBCBreakfast It’s Friday and the sun is shining and I’m particularly excited about the upcoming segway to Morning Live for even more large amounts of utter BBC s*** and flapdoodle!!"

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

BBC and GMB are currently a couple of the only TV news options for those viewing this morning, after various broadcasters found themselves wiped out by Microsoft glitches. A corrupt Microsoft Windows anti-virus update is thought to be responsible for causing chaos this morning, as supermarkets, banks, IT firms, airlines and of course broadcasters were brought to their knees.

Air travel disruption is looming large, with some customers being asked to check in three hours earlier than usual to stand a chance of beating the glitches.

It has been reported that GP practises have lost access to medical records, as well as the online booking system, leaving them incapable of booking new appointments for ailing Brits.

Meanwhile, Jacquie Beltrao has taken to Twitter to share her frustration that she's been left incapable of presenting Sky News this morning.

At 6am, viewers were met with screens which were totally blank apart from a message explaining the technical glitch - and the channel went on to air old documentaries on the likes of Vladimir Putin, as their hopes of broadcasting live turned to dust.
