Dermot O'Leary red-faced as he's called out by This Morning guest live on air

Julian Clary calls Dermot O'Leary out over outfit on This Morning

Dermot O'Leary was given a telling off by a This Morning guest live on air.

The 51-year-old presenter was back on the iconic blue sofa with co-host Alison Hammond on Tuesday (July 16), stepping in for regular hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley.

They welcomed comedian Julian Clary to the show, engaging in a chat before his scheduled interview slot to find out what he'd be discussing.

However, things took an awkward turn as Julian playfully criticised Dermot about his latest outfit. Julian cheekily said to Dermot: "I have spoken to you before about tucking your t-shirt into your trousers."

In response to Julian's patterned shirt and shorts co-ord, Dermot hit back: "I haven't got my jimmy jams on.", reports the Mirror.

Dermot sported a navy T-shirt with a pair of beige chinos for his latest television appearance. Prior to speaking to Julian, Dermot and Alison discussed the police finding a body in the search for missing teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife, admitting he had one question for the search party.

Addressing viewers, Dermot stated: "The civil guard says that whilst formal identification needs to take place, all evidence suggests the remains are those of Jay Slater, who might have suffered an accident or fall."

Speaking about the ongoing mystery, LBC's Tom Swarbrick revealed that questions were being raised in local and national media alike. "[They have] the same questions that are on the front page of one of the British newspapers today, which is basically, 'Why wasn't this done sooner, given that unfortunately this body was located quite close to where the last phone signal seemed to have come from?"

Reflecting on why the case took so long to unfold, he went on to explain: "The answer from this newspaper editor is the terrain is horrendous. Unless you've been there you just don't know how hilly and craggy and rocky it is. It seems as if unfortunately from the road they were searching on, the body was found some 600ft below which would indicate as the police are suggesting an accident or fall of some kind."

Saddened by the recent developments, Tom professed: "It's the worst possible news for the family, isn't it? And I just think everyone's sympathies are with Jay's mum, because it's horrific." Echoing his sentiments, Alison added: "It's every mum's nightmare."

Dermot had his own questions too, after sending This Morning reporter Isla Traquair to Tenerife to cover the story. He explained: "Isla, from the show, went out there. I was talking to her off-mic last week and I said, 'Why haven't they found him? '".

He quoted Isla's response: "She said until you're there it's hard to appreciate just how hostile that environment is to try and find someone, it's a needle in a haystack."

Spanish authorities announced on Monday (July 15) that they have discovered human remains amidst the search for Jay, a 19 year old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, who vanished on June 17 while on the Spanish isle.

The Civil Guard has indicated that although official identification is pending, "all evidence suggests" the remains belong to Jay, hinting at a possible accident or fall as the cause.
