A BBC radio station was forced to interrupt broadcasting due to a fire alarm this morning. BBC Radio Merseyside was taken off air, and replaced with sound waves from BBC Radio Lancashire instead.

Kevin Duala normally wakes up Merseyside from 6am, but he was replaced as Radio Lancashire and Graham Liver took over instead. Introducing the show, Graham told listeneners: "Good Morning, I'm Graham Liver. If you're listening on BBC Radio Merseyside your normal programmes will resume very shortly."

A little while later, the radio station host explained: "There's a fire alarm in Liverpool, so as we speak, Kevin is outside waiting to get in. In the meantime, you're stuck with me."

He added: "But don't worry, Kevin will be in your building very shortly." The show went on to give several updates throughout the morning, as Graham confirmed that the Merseyside team would be back on the air waves from 7am - Meaning that it had taken them a whole hour to start the show properly.

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Upon his return, regular presenter Kevin thanked Graham and the rest of the team at BBC Radio Lancashire. He explained: "We are back. We had a few technical issues but we are back now and settled in for you to start your morning here with BBC Radio Merseyside."

A fundraiser has been set up to help to support his surviving daughter, Amy. So far, more than £28,000 has been collected since the fundraiser was launched.

John and Amy released a joint statement on Saturday, thanking the public for messages of support in what they described as "an extremely difficult time".

They said: "The devastation that we are experiencing cannot be put into words. We would like to thank people for their kind messages and for the support we have received in recent days. These have provided great comfort to us for which we are very grateful.

"As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time for us, and we need time and space to come to terms with what has happened and start the grieving process."
