Ryanair to launch flights from Norwich and Belfast to Malta

Ryanair has announced what it says is its biggest ever summer schedules for Malta, with a total of 67 routes including three new services.

Flights from Norwich to Malta International airport will launch on 1 April, followed by a route from Belfast International to the central Mediterranean country on 2 April. The low-cost carrier will also serve Malta from Rome this summer.

This is Ryanair’s first summer operating from Norwich – the airline is also set to launch flights from the airport to Alicante and Faro from April.

The new routes will add to Ryanair’s existing UK services to Malta from Birmingham, Bournemouth, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester and Stansted.

Jet2 also flies between Belfast International and Malta – there are currently no scheduled flights to the country from Norwich.

The news comes as Malta’s flag carrier prepares to cease operations at the end of March, to be immediately replaced by a new entity going by the name of KM Malta Airlines.

Commenting on the news Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said:

“As Malta’s no.1 airline, Ryanair is pleased to announce its biggest ever S24 schedule for Malta, with three new routes to Belfast, Norwich, and Rome, offering Malta’s citizens/visitors even more choice for weekend city breaks and summer holidays at the lowest fares in Europe.

“These three new routes reflect Ryanair’s dedication to providing Malta with the best travel experience at the lowest cost. Our $700 million investment in the island and our 22 per cent traffic growth highlights Ryanair’s commitment to Malta’s tourism growth and connectivity.”
