Club Med to launch its first resort in the Middle East

Club Med, the French travel and tourism operator known for its specialism in premium all-inclusive holidays, has announced the launch of the Club Med Musandam project, which will be its first resort in the Middle East. This ground-breaking development is a result of a collaborative partnership between Club Med, Royal Court Affairs and Omran Group, developers of Club Med Musandam, with an investment exceeding US$100 million.

A renowned pioneer in all-inclusive sun and snow holidays since 1950, Club Med remains one of the most recognised names in the world for luxury family-friendly getaways in stunning locations around the world.

“The history and success of Club Med lies on its pioneer approach, strongly contributing to the development of regions and areas where it has been implementing. The project of Club Med Musandam is a key milestone as it is our first presence in the Middle East” says Henri Giscard d’Estaing, president of Club Med.

Club Med Musandam will be the brand’s first entry to the Middle East, with its location chosen specifically for its stunning natural beauty, and its ability to support the brand’s ongoing commitment towards shining a light on their resort locations’ local environment and culture. “We’re always either in the most well-known or little-known destinations across the world, but part of our mission is to discover the most incredible locations around the world, and put them on the map for our clientele,” Anne Browaeys, CEO of Club Med, told Business Traveller Middle East in an exclusive interview. “We look for a large space with nature and the best surroundings – an incredible space where clients really enjoy a connection with nature. [Oman] was the first gem that we identified in the region,” she said.

Through its commercial partnership with dnata travel, Club Med has already been growing fast in the last few years in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, offering premium all-inclusive beach and mountain holiday experience for families. The company serves both leisure travellers and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) corporate customers based across the GCC.

Club Med worked very closely with Oman’s governmental and tourism authorities to find the perfect location for their inaugural Middle East presence, which will be the first of six resorts they plan to open in the region in the coming years. The resort will spread over 215 sqm of land, and will incorporate a 600m private beach. Sustainability will be at its heart, with a commitment to eco-certification with renowned global independent eco-construction certification BREEAM, or its local equivalent. In Oman, Club Med aims to achieve a 4-star rating from the Green Building Council of SA (GBCSA) for this development.

Masters of experiential travel, Club Med’s Musandam resort will offer a wide range of experiences for guests to enjoy, from sports and well-being to dining and more, as well as a multitude of family-friendly options for all ages, all of which will be supported by the brand’s signature personalised approach. The project will also exhibit a deep commitment to incorporating as much of the local culture as possible, by working with local providers to and sourcing as many of its materials and other resources as possible locally. The new project is projected to generate over 400 direct jobs and an additional 800 indirect jobs.

“This collaboration with Club Med is an important step that is in line with the objective of Omran vision 2040 aiming at bringing 11 million tourists in Oman to boost the inflow of international tourists to the Sultanate” says H.E. Mr. Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

Construction on Club Med Musandam is expected to commence in early 2026 and take around 26 months, with the resort currently expected to open in 2028.
