Qld Natural Resources, Mining gears up for digital push

The department, which oversees Queensland’s mining and resources sector, intends to develop a roadmap for over 90 legacy IT systems within six months of hiring the new CDO.

It is also ramping up its cyber security capabilities through the implementation of a new system and staff awareness.

According to a job advertisement [pdf[ the new CDO will develop a “digital and data strategy, championing enterprise architecture principles and driving innovation”.

Leading a team of 21, the CDO will also be tasked with establishing a new delivery model for digital offerings and implementing data management and governance strategies.

In addition to reporting to the department’s CFO, the CDO will work alongside the CIO and CISO of Queensland’s Department of Primary Industries under a seven-agency shared service agreement.

A spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources told iTnews the role was an “ongoing position” previously overseen on an interim basis.

According to its annual report, the department's digital strategy is currently overseen by CFO Stephen Case [pdf].

In its annual report, the Department of Natural Resources outlined its plans to “continue to modernise data and digital systems to improve the efficiency and efficacy of critical departmental services”.

The department also outlined its plans to develop new digital solutions for managing resource permits, plus land parcels and property boundaries.
