Fightful Select has an update on WWE NXT Superstar Stephanie Vaquer following her NXT in-ring debut on last week’s show. Vaquer defeated Wren Sinclair during the live CW broadcast. There are also reactions to her signing with WWE after wrestling Mercedes Mone for the TBS Title at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Sources in AEW informed Fightful that Vaquer made a good impression with her feud and match with Mercedes Mone. However, they realized not long after Forbidden Door that WWE reached out to her, and she planned to sign with the company. That said, how quickly Vaquer’s WWE deal came together was reportedly surprising to many.

Multiple AEW sources said while they understood WWE wanting to sign an exceptional talent that AEW also wanted, they didn’t understand pulling her from her CMLL dates before she could drop her title. Vaquer was CMLL World Women’s and World Women’s Tag Team Champion at the time she signed with WWE. She was stripped of both titles after departing from CMLL and signing with WWE. Fightful notes that Vaquer quickly turning around and wrestling some of WWE’s recent live events in Mexico alleviated some of the criticism of WWE pulling her from her scheduled CMLL dates after she signed with the company.

The report also notes that WWE officials appear to be very happy with Stephanie Vaquer, and she’s said to be enjoying her time in NXT so far.

Sources with NJPW and AEW believe that it’s likely that talent that work upcoming Forbidden Door or other shows co-promoted with AEW will have to sign an agreement that they will not immediately go to WWE, or that they will likely at least be under some type of contract rather than making a separate agreement. This has not been confirmed from within NJPW or AEW.
