Andy Murray has ensured that he will play at least one more match of professional tennis after he and Dan Evans secured their passage into the quarterfinal stage of the Olympic men's doubles tournament via a nail-biting second-round win in Paris.
The British duo beat Belgium's Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen 11-9 in the match tie-break after splitting the first two sets and means they are now one more win away from competing for a medal in the French capital.
The two-time Olympic gold medallist confirmed on Thursday that he would not take part in the singles tournament at Roland Garros, focusing instead on the doubles as it represented a better chance of medalling and placed less physical strain on his body as he recovered from a spinal cyst procedure.
Murray and Evans reached the second round at Roland Garros after pulling off an extraordinary victory over Japan's Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori where the British duo saved five match points in a third set tiebreak.
